2023 elections critical to suffering Nigerians, says Cleric
A cleric, Dr Koeleh Saleh, on Sunday lamented the state of affairs in Nigeria which he noted has continued to inflict hardship and suffering on the citizens.
Saleh, who is the President, Plateau Baptist Conference, blamed the situation on bad leaders describing it as regrettable and critical to the people.
He spoke at the 46th annual conference of the church which was held at the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday.
The President who charged Nigerians not to joke with the 2023 elections insisted that the only way to bring a positive turnaround in the affairs of the country is for Nigerians to ensure the enthronement of credible leaders during the forthcoming elections.
He said, “It has not been well with our country Nigeria. Every sphere of our national life has been depleting by the day.
Whereas our leaders who have been entrusted with the affairs of leadership must own up to their part in failing to fix the problems, particularly the economic and security, it also behoves the Christian community and inward reflection and owns up to their failure in her prophetic role to the society.
“The general election is just around the corner and it is another opportunity for the citizens of this country to elect people of their choice to lead them.
“I urge the Baptist family not to trivialise this election because it is both one of our moral and spiritual obligations to the society.”
Saleh said that given the critical condition in which Nigerians have found themselves, it would amount to a disservice to the nation for any eligible voter not to participate in the poll.
The president who called on Nigerians to get their PVCs added, “While we enjoin the electorate to come out and vote for the candidate of their choice, we call on security agents and INEC not to be partisan but ensure that a level playing ground is given to all contestants so as to make the process free fair and transparent.
He also prayed for the success of the poll.
The PUNCH reports that over 267 churches from the three senatorial districts in Plateau State attended the 46th annual conference with the theme, “Entering into newness with praise and thanksgiving; pressing on with the kingdom goal in view.”
