At least 10 dead after migrant boat capsizes in Channel - French media
At least 10 people are believed to have died after a boat with dozens of migrants capsized in the English Channel, according to French media.
The French coastguard said more than 50 people were being rescued and in need of medical treatment, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
Officials initially stated 10 people were in critical condition after the boat got into difficulty off the coast of Le Portel, about 28 miles (45km) southwest of Calais.
The regional newspaper, La Voix du Nord, is now reporting 10 people have died.
Another media outlet, France 3, had initially said "at least 100 migrants" were on board "following the sinking of a boat" at 11.30am (10.30am UK time), and reported that several white tarpaulins were spotted on the quay.
It added that some people have been rescued - including by air - and dropped off at the neighbouring port of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
No details have been given about how many have been recovered from the water.
Separately on Tuesday, an RNLI lifeboat docked in Dover with people on board after an incident in the Channel.
It is not currently known if those people were rescued from the same incident off the coast of France.
