Fernandez wants Chelsea move in Jan | Talks ongoing
Talks between Chelsea owners, Benfica president Rui Costa, and agent Jorge Mendes about Enzo Fernandez's future were ongoing on Wednesday (Jan 4). No agreement was reached.
Benfica want Chelsea to meet the €120m release clause - or at least a sizeable chunk paid up front.
Sources in Portugal claim Fernandez requested to be left out of Benfica's game at Braga on Friday. He played 89 minutes of that 3-0 defeat.
It is thought Fernandez wants to make the move in this current window.
With a release clause of €120m, roughly £105m, the Argentina midfielder would become the Premier League's most expensive signing.
But Sky Sports News have been told Chelsea are not prepared to pay his release clause in full, and instead want to pay it in instalments. If they can do a deal in instalments, they are prepared to pay more than the £105m release clause to get the deal done as quickly as possible.
