Gombe set to fumigate international airport
The Secretary to Gombe State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, has directed, on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya,
the immediate fumigation of Gombe International Airport.
Our correspondent reports that the fumigation will ensure the protection of human lives against flying and crawling pests, especially as the airport is surrounded by bushes.
Njodi, who gave the directive when he led top government functionaries to inspect the upgrade of facilities at the Gombe International Airport on Friday, said safety of staff and passengers remained the priority of government.
He said, “You are to liaise with the Ministry of Environment for immediate fumigation. They have all the facilities needed to fumigate the airport environment”
The SSG further directed for the report of all needed facilities for short term, medium and long term be forwarded to his office for immediate government action.
“Airport opreation is strictly business thereby providing government addittional source of revenue,” he added.
He decried the level of facility decay at airport despite government effort towards ensuring that it met international standard, stressing that effort of government to industrialise the state would remain a mirage without a beffitting airport.
Njodi also lauded the sole administrator of the airport and his team for addressing the perennial water problem and quality work they were doing to upgrade facilities at the airport to meet world standard.
Conducting the SSG and his entourage round the Airport, the Sole Administrator, Engr. Mohammed Kabir, briefed the SSG on the level of work done in accordance with the mandate given him in his appointment.
He called on the expedited action on the soon-to-be-forwarded report of equipment needed for required upgrade of the airport.
