Oasis live: Tonight's the night! Oasis are back and 'sounding huge', Noel says - as Liam under fire for post

Oasis fans tell Sky News: 'We didn't know if they would ever be back - lucky us!'

We're now talking to some Oasis fans in Cardiff.

Scott, who saw them at Knebworth in 1996 on the first of two nights, is back to see them again.

"I brought my 19-year-old son with me today, he's been desperate to see Oasis and we didn't know if they'd ever get together again.

"Lucky for us, opening night."

Scott said he'd brought up his son on Oasis' music over the years, and tonight's concert was a "cross-generation" event.

Rough and tumble brothers: Oasis first encounters

More from our live in Cardiff to bring you now.

Dominic Mohan, a former editor at The Sun, recounts his first time seeing the band in north London in August 1994.

He said it was a "rough" concert with fans worked up and quite aggressive.

He's told Katie Spencer, our arts and entertainment correspondent, it was "really rough" and had left his wife "scared".

James Corcoran, host of the Oasis Podcast, described being 14 "hearing all that stuff happening" at Oasis concerts.

They discussed an infamous incident at a Newcastle gig where one of the brothers was said to have hit someone with a guitar.

First song, brotherly love and concert money

Our arts and entertainment correspondent Katie Spencer is chatting with James Corcoran, host of the Oasis Podcast, and Dominic Mohan, a former editor of The Sun, outside the Principality Stadium.

First song

Spencer asked what our experts think the brothers will open tonight's concert with.

Acquiesce was one of the suggestions Corcoran said, with Mohan asking if they'd do an instrumental song.

"Acquiesce is the emotion in the lyrics, it's the fact both brothers sing, it's the message of the band," Corcoran said.

Brotherly love

Spencer asked whether there'd be much brotherly love on stage.

The Gallaghers spent years feuding before reuniting for this tour.

Mohan joked: "There'll be a nod maybe."

He added: "There could be a no touching rule, it could be in the contract."

Oasis money

The brothers are embarking on a global tour in front of millions of fans and Spencer asked how lucrative it would likely be.

"I've done back of the fag packet equations," Mohan said, "With 41 nights, average crowd of 70,000 ... you're getting not far off a billion for tickets."

He said there would be merchandise money as well and drew comparisons with Taylor Swift's tour.

Corcoran pointed out that the brothers also had a lucrative deal with Adidas.

Watch: Oasis tour a 'privilege' for Cardiff but a 'suspicious' reason to shut the roof

While Oasis' tour kicking off in Cardiff is a "privilege", one local pub manager has admitted he thinks there's a "suspicious" reason they've shut the arena's roof.

Our arts and entertainment correspondent Katie Spencer has spoken to Gary Corp, the manager at the City Arms pub.

His establishment is opposite the Cardiff Principality Stadium, where Oasis kick off their reunion tour tonight.

He said it was a "privilege" having Oasis perform first in Cardiff.

He also speculated that the roof of the stadium had been shut to keep out any drones trying to film the concert.

"That's my little suspicious mind, I think that's probably more the reason," he said.

Oasis reunion a pinch yourself moment

Is it my imagination, or am I actually about to see the reunion they said would never happen?

This is it, the first Oasis comeback show – Liam and Noel Gallagher together on stage again for the first time since Noel walked out in August 2009.

When the reunion was announced last year, talk quickly turned to the brothers' relationship and how, exactly, they had reconciled after years of exchanging barbs through separate interviews (and posts on social media for Liam).

Their first statement didn't really give anything away, and there were no interviews.

In the weeks leading up to these gigs, I thought there might be something from them together, but no; other than reports on their rehearsals, new photos released for an Adidas collab and the usual daily social media fan exchanges from Liam, the Gallaghers have kept remarkably quiet.

When they walk out onto the stage in Cardiff, for all but a few insiders, it will be the first chance any of us have to see them properly together for the first time in 16 years.

For the thousands of fans watching tonight, that moment is going to be huge.

The story of the rock 'n' roll Gallagher brothers so far

An Oasis reunion has felt half the world away... until now.

Liam and Noel Gallagher, renowned for their fractious relationship over the decades, are about to embark on a 41-date world tour.

Their opening gig in Cardiff tonight will mark the first time they have performed together for almost 16 years, yet their popularity has never fizzled out.

The band first formed in Manchester in 1991 and went on to become one of the most successful to emerge during the Britpop era in the mid-1990s.

Here's a look at their story so far.
