Protests, many involving far-right and anti-immigrant groups, are expected to continue six days on from the Southport stabbings, which led to a wave of online misinformation. More than 100 people were arrested across the UK yesterday.

One police officer has been seen being treated by colleagues inside the hotel while social media footage appears to show demonstrators setting fire to objects placed against the building.

Police have managed to get round and block off the area from protesters.

Rioters have also been seen throwing chairs and other objects towards officers and breaking the building's windows.

Some have managed to break into the hotel as a police helicopter circles overhead.

Section 60 orders issued in Liverpool and Southport

Two Section 60 Orders have been introduced in Liverpool and Southport for 12 hours.

The orders were put in place at 2pm today and will stay active for a 12-hour period until 2am tomorrow.

They have has been introduced to prevent incidents of disorder and criminality after the violence and disorder seen in Liverpool city centre and Walton on Saturday.

The orders give officers more powers to stop and search individuals across areas of Liverpool and Southport and are designed to prevent serious violence.

Social media footage appears to show demonstrators at the Holiday Inn Express in Rotherham setting fire to objects placed against the building.

Northern Ireland police 'dealing with reports of criminal damage, assault and arson'

Police in Northern Ireland have said they "strongly condemn" the scenes of violence in Belfast yesterday.

They said protest involving around 600 people had formed in the City Hall area yesterday morning and throughout the course of the evening, further disorder was reported in the Sandy Row area where a business premises was also set on fire.

Assistant chief constable Davy Beck said: "As a result of yesterday's disorder, we are today, dealing with a number of reports of criminal damage, assault, and arson - as well as other related offences."

Masked anti-immigration demonstrators have been causing damage at a Holiday Inn Express in Rotherham.

At least one police officer is believed to have been injured in clashes, PA news agency reports, as one was seen being carried away by colleagues.
