US drone strike kills Iran-aligned militia leader in Baghdad
A drone strike on a vehicle in Baghdad has killed at least three people, including the leader of a militia the US blames for killing three US troops.
Iraqi security sources identified one of the dead as the leader of Kataib Hezbollah, an Iranian-aligned militia that launched an attack on a US base.
The attack occurred in the city's eastern Mashtal neighbourhood, sparking several loud explosions.
Last month, Kataib Hezbollah said it was suspending attacks on US troops.
A senior US defence official said the attack was carried out by a drone, according to CBS News, the BBC's US partner.
The official added that the Kataib Hezbollah leader was the target of the operation.
Other groups supported by Iran were also hit in the Wednesday night attack, according to Reuters and AFP.
The latest attacks come just days after US airstrikes targeted militia positions in Iraq and Syria in response to a deadly attack on a US base in Jordan last month.
