Who could move before transfer window closes?

With just a few days to go, we are getting to the business end of the transfer window.

Who could move before transfer window closes?

The window closes at 23:00 BST on Friday, 30 August and the futures of many players are still up in the air.

We take a look at some of those who could be on the move.

Raheem Sterling

It looks like Raheem Sterling's time is up after he was left out of Chelsea's first two Premier League games and has been training away from the first-team squad.

His representatives have asked for clarity and Blues boss Enzo Maresca said he had been "honest" with the England winger, telling him he would "struggle" to get playing time.

Aston Villa are the latest club to be linked with a move for the 29-year-old, while Crystal Palace are also interested.

Sterling has made 81 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Manchester City for £50m in July 2022.

Lukaku, Chilwell and others at Chelsea

With 42 players currently listed in the Chelsea first-team squad, some big names are on the chopping block.

Striker Romelu Lukaku rejoined Chelsea for £97.5m in 2021 but he has spent the past two seasons on loan at Inter Milan and then Roma.

Lukaku is said to be close to agreeing a move to Napoli that would see him join up with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

England defender Ben Chilwell moved from Leicester on a five-year deal for £45m in 2020 and has played 106 games for the Blues.

"With Chilly, I said he is a lovely guy, but he is going to struggle because of his position. He is going to struggle," said Maresca.

Meanwhile, defender Trevoh Chalobah is another who is not training with the first team.

Ivan Toney

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has said Ivan Toney's future is "up in the air".

The 28-year-old England striker was left out of their opener against Crystal Palace after a £35m bid for him to join Saudi side Al-Ahli was turned down and was also not included in the squad for their defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.

"I hope I don't have to answer many more questions like this in the future, but it is what it is," said Frank on Sunday. "I have already said if Ivan is here, good, if he is not here then also good."

He added on BBC Radio 5 Live: "We find out on Friday. We will know something on Friday. Everything could be done on Friday. All different clubs could be coming in for Ivan so let's see."

Toney has been at Brentford for the past four years and scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League games in the 2022-23 season.

He missed half of last season as the result of being banned for eight months for breaking Football Association betting rules but returned to score four goals in 17 appearances.

Toney is out of contract next summer and has been linked with moves to clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea in the past.

Aaron Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale is yet to feature for Arsenal this season

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in a £24m move in 2021 but he has lost his number one spot to Spain's David Raya and could soon be on his way out of Emirates Stadium.

Raya became first choice following his loan move from Brentford last season and he has now made a permanent switch to the Gunners.

So far the firmest interest in Ramsdale has come from Wolves, who have made an offer to sign the 26-year-old England international on a season-long loan.

Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace have turned down four bids from Newcastle for England defender Marc Guehi, the latest being for about £65m.

Guehi, who has two years left on his contract at Selhurst Park, is ready to move this summer if the option becomes available.

The centre-back captained Palace in their opening two games of the season.

The Eagles are reluctant to lose both of their centre-backs after selling Joachim Andersen to Fulham for a fee believed to be in the region of £30m.

Kieran Trippier

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier wants to leave the club this month in search of first-team football.

The 33-year-old England international was an unused substitute in the Magpies' 1-0 opening win against Southampton but came off the bench in the second half of their 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Sunday.

Trippier, who joined the club from Atletico Madrid in 2022, is behind former Saints full-back Tino Livramento in the pecking order for the right-back position.

Newcastle blocked Trippier from leaving the club in January following interest from Bayern Munich and a club in Saudi Arabia.

Trippier has been linked with a move to Everton to reunite with Sean Dyche, who managed him for three years at Burnley.

Speaking on Friday, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said: "My wish is that he stays here and continues to play for us."

Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton are keen to keep hold of their 22-year-old centre-back - but the transfer 'noise' is very loud.

The Toffees have already rejected two bids from Manchester United for Jarrad Branthwaite earlier this summer, with the Old Trafford club having since signed Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.

There are plenty of other teams being reported as ready to move though, with the latest link being to their city rivals Liverpool.

Scott McTominay and Jadon Sancho

There could be a couple of high-profile exits from Manchester United this week.

Jadon Sancho may be back at Manchester United, following last season's falling out with manager Erik ten Hag and subsequent loan move to Borussia Dortmund, but the question is for how long?

The winger was not involved in United's opener against Fulham and did not make the squad for the defeat at Brighton on Saturday.

With a number of injured players still to return, he may be wondering how many opportunities he is going to get, with Chelsea, Barcelona and Juventus all linked with making a move.

Meanwhile, midfielder Scott McTominay could be about to head to Napoli, with the Serie A side agreeing a fee for the Scotland international.

Joao Cancelo

A man who could be on the move from Premier League champions Manchester City is full-back Joao Cancelo.

The Portugal international went out on loan to Bayern Munich for the second half of the 2022-23 season after falling out of favour at City. He then spent the whole of last season on loan at Barcelona.

Reports have linked Cancelo with a move to a club in Saudi Arabia, although City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed last week that the club had yet to receive any enquiries.

"He's training with us, yes. Maybe stay, maybe go on loan. He loves to play football and train. We will see," said Guardiola.
