Arsenal transfer target agents ‘visit London for talks’ but Newcastle also hold meeting | football | Sports
Arsenal and Newcastle United officials who are targeting Ivan Fresneda reportedly traveled to London over the weekend to discuss the player’s next move in person. Fresneda was linked with a possible move to the Premier League until the end of the January transfer window after impressing in Spain with Real Valladolid in recent months.
The 18-year-old full-back has enjoyed a breakout season in La Liga this year and has become a regular starter for Valladolid as they battle to avoid relegation to the second division. His age-defying performances are said to have lured Arsenal and Newcastle to his availability, while Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have also been credited with wanting to secure his signature.
It seems the wheels are already in motion for a new challenge for Fresneda as his agents are said to have recently traveled to London for talks with several Premier League clubs Sky Sports. Arsenal are said to be hoping to join Newcastle in the battle to land Fresneda in the coming weeks, although no firm offers are said to have been made by either club so far.
Additional interest in Fresneda from elsewhere in Europe suggests that Arsenal and Newcastle will face stiff competition to sign the player, who is believed to remain at Valladolid until summer 2025. His current employers are reportedly reluctant to sell their valuable asset mid-season, but money is talking and it’s claimed a lucrative offer could be enough to tempt them to cash in.
It seems like Valladolid manager Pacheta has already come to terms with losing Fresneda at some point in the not too distant future, with the 54-year-old admitting earlier this month he doesn’t expect the teenage defender to stay for long.
“[Fresneda] only has a few games left in the Blanquivioleta shirt because he’s 18 years old but does things that 30-year-old players do,” Pacheta was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo.
Pacheta also said he would try to sign Fresneda if he was in charge of another club without thinking twice, adding: “He would be a fantastic acquisition, his numbers are fantastic and although I would like him to be here remains, I understand that the club and I agree with them in everything they do.
“It’s good for the player that he can keep playing but I’m sure he’ll play everywhere because he’s a good right-back who also played brilliantly against Real Madrid.”
